Zovirax Cold Sore Cream

Zovirax Cold Sore Cream contains the anti-viral drug aciclovir. It is an antiviral medicine that treats the virus-containing cold sore which causes flu symptoms. Zovirax works when you feel sick (sweeter) or injured (immunoedged) by cold sores (fever-related conditions). Cold sores are small, red bumps (focal cell lesions) on the skin that form on the lips and face.

Zovirax is available in a cream that makes cold sores more likely.

Zovirax is an antiviral medicine that stops the multiplication of the virus in your body. It is used to treat the first cold sore and other viral infections caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). Cold sores are painful and can cause serious damage to your lips and skin.

Safety

Effectiveness: Can be used to treat genital herpes and other viral infections in children and adolescents. Can also be used to treat infections in the ear and nose and throat (such as genital herpes, herpes simplex, and herpes zoster).

How to use

Apply at a consistent daily dose (2.5 g) with the provided applicator. You should apply the cream about 1-3 hours before or after a fever flare. Apply at the first sign of a cold sore, such as: A cold sore appears on one side of the mouth and lips and lasts for 4-6 days without symptoms See a doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure of the severity of your cold sore or if there is any possibility of it coming back.

Avoid touching the cold sore and apply to the affected area preferably using a clean, dry place. Wash your hands after touching the cold sore. Do not apply a barrier type of cream. You should not be touched by an infected area and apply a moisturiser (e.g. tretinoin or cream) if you are not sexually active (see 'Other treatments for herpes infections' section).

Missed Dose

If you forget a dose, apply the next time you remember, as it is usually the next dose that is missed. Do not apply to an area that is too cold, as you may still be using the cream.

Zovirax Cold Sore Cream Precautions

Do not use Zovirax if you have ever had an allergic reaction to aciclovir, valaciclovir, famciclovir, itraconazole, ketoconazole, or any of the ingredients in Zovirax Cream. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, ask your doctor about the risks and benefits. If you experience any side effects, discontinue Zovirax Cold Sore Cream 5%w/w and seek medical attention immediately. The most common side effects include burning, redness, itching, and discharge. See the end of this leaflet for a complete list of side effects. Zovirax Cream 5%w/w contains aciclovir which may cause severe side effects (e.g. blister, rash) and should be used with caution in these patients. Zovirax Cream 5%w/w contains a broad-spectrum antiviral medicine. It is used to treat herpes virus infections of the skin and mucous membranes and cold sores (herpes labialis). Cold sores are a very common condition in children and adults, and are caused by viruses including cold sores, genital herpes, and herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections. Zovirax 5% w/w cream contains the active ingredient aciclovir 5%, a cold sore cream which works by inhibiting viral DNA replication (see Table 1). Cold sores can be contagious and may be the first sign of a cold sore. Zovirax Cold Sore Cream 5% w/w may also be used to treat other cold sore conditions such as chickenpox, shingles, shingles associated with the disease herpes zoster (shingles affecting the face, throat, or lips). This product is not indicated in patients with active peptic ulcer disease (e.g. ulcers caused by a virus) and does not cure cold sores. Zovirax Cold Sore Cream 5% w/w contains aciclovir 5% w/w. It is used to treat herpes simplex virus infections of the skin and mucous membranes (cold sores). HSV infections can be contagious and may be the first sign of a cold sore. HSV infections can be the first sign of a cold sore. Zovirax 5% w/w contains aciclovir 5% w/w. It is used to treat cold sores (herpes labialis). Zovirax 5% w/w cream contains aciclovir 5%, a cold sore cream which works by inhibiting viral DNA replication (see Table 1).

Zovirax Cold Sore Cream is the original antiviral treatment that promotes rapid healing of cold sores and if used early enough, can prevent or limit their effects.

Directions:

If healing is not complete after five days, the treatment can be continued for up to five days more.
